# Mental Math for Consultingx

Welcome to Management Consulted’s Mental Math for Consulting course. This course is for those of you who are preparing for case interviews and/or life on the job as well as those who just want to sharpen up their math skills. The course is also designed to be fun in order to most effectively break any fear you may have of doing math out loud!

How will mental math skills help during case interviews? Case interviews are a test of your business acumen, problem solving skills, and quantitative abilities. Your interviewers will toss you math tasks intermixed with business problems. They will keep score of how well you handled the quantitative (aka math) parts of your interview. And believe me, to get into a consulting firm, you will need to have scored at least decently well (if you’re a hotshot in other areas) if not extremely well in math – slow math and especially incorrect math is a deal-breaker for cases.

This course is a one-stop-shop to learn all the methods of calculating math mentally. It will help you crack case interviews with ease and at the same time make you look top-notch brainy.

Math is easy – as long as you have the right methods and take time to prepare, you can master any calculation from addition to calculating return on investment to popping out weighted averages. This course has it all: 10 modules, 32 lessons, 187 math problems (examples + problem equations + math quizzes + combo test), formulas, math tricks, and expert videos. Yes – you get to watch us write out our math, talk through the math, and even discuss how to handle math mistakes (hey – perfection isn’t the goal! Speed and accuracy are – which are different than perfection.)

The maximum time you will get to crack the math in a case interview is about 5 minutes, so having a razor sharp mental capacity is ideal. The top reason most interviewees don’t get through first rounds is because they don’t focus on sharpening their mental math skills.

By the way, the world of mental math is huge. You could spend days, even months and years refining your math craft. There are literally thousands of math tricks out there to learn. By the end of this course, we want you to be able to take on the math challenges that you would face in the consulting world, yet we don’t want you to be overloaded with too much that you are paralyzed with an overload of information. Because of that, we’ll share with you simple yet power mental math tricks that are applicable to the consulting and business world.

To use this course most effectively – grab pen and paper (like you would use in the case interview), pull out your phone to use as a timer, and yes – lock away your calculator for the next few months. Give yourself about 30 minutes in one sitting to complete each lesson, take notes if that’s helpful, do all the practice questions with us, and make sure you take the tests until you’re perfect.

Have fun – and happy math-ing!
